K9

In 2000, then Officer Michael Finogle created a K-9 Unit using federal grant money and his experiences as a Military Police K-9 Handler for the US Army.

Recently, Officer Michael Armstrong along with K-9 "Titan," a male German Shepard, completed the training to be certified in the detection of narcotic and controlled substances and will attend the New Hampshire State Police  K-9 Academy.

Some of the functions K-9 Titan is certified (and is expected to be certified) in include:

  • Routine Patrol
  • Tracking suspects/lost/missing people
  • Detection of suspects hiding in buildings, cars, and wooded areas
  • Handler/Officer protection and suspect apprehension
  • K-9 demonstrations for numerous organizations, school and clubs

Our previous K-9's include K-9 Yogi (pictured below) who was the first K-9 now Sgt. Finogle brought to the agency. K-9 Yogi worked for the Department until he was stricken with a sudden illness in July 2006. His decorations include the Lifesaving Medal and the Distinguished Unit Action award

K-9 Jago (pronounced 'Ya-go') was handled by Sgt. Finogle and worked for the Department until 2012. Upon the promotion of his handler, K-9 Jago (pictured below) retired and now lives with Sgt. Finogle.
